The Kavli Trust was established in 1962, and became the sole owner of Kavli Holding, ensuring that the company’s success would serve a greater purpose. The Trust was founded by Knut Kavli, following the vision of his father, Olav Kavli, who believed that strong businesses should contribute positively to society.

​From the beginning, the mission of the Kavli Trust has been clear: To use business profits to support humanitarian work, research, and culture. This ownership model secures a long‑term perspective, where commercial success and social responsibility go hand in hand.

​Today, profits from Kavli Holding enable the Kavli Trust to support a wide range of initiatives that create lasting value for society. The Kavli Trust focuses on two key areas in the current strategy period: Child and adolescent mental health and sustainable production and consumption.
