Production site in Bergen
Kavli has built and moved in step with the development of the company. The Kavli building, built from 1916-1918, situated in the centre of Bergen, Norway was the first step, while the factory at Damsgård was the next. The demand for more space, bigger machines and rationalisation of the processes resulted in a new factory at Midttun, Bergen and was in use from 1984. Today cheese spread in tubes and tubs, sliced cheese, mayonnaise, caviar and HaPå – sweet spread, are being produced in the factory.

Production site at Barkåker
Vestfold Flatbrødfabrik AS was established by Nils Halvorsen. As a young man he got a job at a paper mill in Skien Cellulosefabrikk in the southern part of Norway. During his work there he got the idea that thin crisp dough could be rolled out the same way as paper. The idea ended up in a factory, Vestfold Flatbrødfabrik, at Barkåker outside Tønsberg in Norway, in 1919.
A good cooperation between Barkåker (Vestfold Flatbrødfabrik) and Olav Kavli led to Barkåker being an important part of Kavli. In 1984, Barkåker became a wholly owned daughter company of Kavli. Today biscuits, thin crisp and thick crisp are being produced at the site for both Norway and other Kavli markets.
