Kavli acquires Druvan

Kavli acquires Druvan in Eslöv with 90 employees and a turnover of SEK 230 million. The acquisition will be effective as of 1 July 2011.

The two business operates in similar categories, and thus complement each other in a positive way. Together the companies will strengthen their already strong positions in Swedish retail.

Druvan produces and sells mustards, sauces, dressings, vinegar, canola oil and vinegar, and imports various types of grains and pickled vegetables. Druvan is also market leader in bulgur and couscous. Manufacturing will continue to take place at existing facilities in Eslöv and Älvsjö.

- We have long had Druvan as our first choice for an acquisition, says Kavli's Managing Director Gerhard Bley. Druvan has a wide range of products with strong brands, which complement Kavli's offer. Druvan has also, like Kavli, a long tradition in Swedish retail with a very good reputation among customers and consumers.

- Kavli has a strong desire to grow and develop. The acquisition of Druvan is an important part in the realization of the strategy, says Gerhard Bley.

- Druvan reported its best results ever in 2010, so it feels good to hand over a  a strong company after 17 years, says Sonne Larsen, Managing Director  of Druvan.

Both Druvan and Kavli have existed for more than 100 years and are owned by foundations. The companies thus have a similar internal culture and a long-term perspective on their activities.

- Our assessment is that Kavli is better placed to strengthen and develop Druvangruppen in a long-term perspective. Meanwhile, the Foundation can put significantly more resources to promote its purposes in the medical research field, said Paul Histrup, Chairman of Dr P Håkansson's foundation.

Gerhard Bley will become Manging Director of the combined company, while Sonne Larsson, MD of Druvan, will leave the company on July 1 to work on Boards.
